US and Iran trade new strikes after Trump declares ceasefire 'over'
The U.S. military launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iranian cities including Bandar Abbas, Chabahar and Bushehr, and Iran responded with strikes of its own, in the most severe escalation since the two sides signed a ceasefire memorandum in mid-June. Trump said the strikes were retribution for an Iranian attack on shipping and warned things would get "much worse" if it happened again, while also floating a naval blockade and strikes on electricity and water infrastructure. Crude oil prices jumped and stocks fell on the renewed uncertainty.
